Where Pittsburgh Plays Piano [email protected]

A native of PIttsburgh, Rebecca has been playing piano since she was eight and hasn't stopped since. Trained as a classical pianist, she earned a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy (piano teaching) at Northwestern University and began her career in music. After teaching undergraduate music at the University of Wisconsin/Green Bay, Rebecca returned to Pittsburgh and established The Rebecca Lewis Piano Studio in 1997, teaching piano lessons to pre-schoolers through adults. She has additional training in Music Therapy at Slippery Rock University and is a member of American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) which uniquely enables her to work with students having motor, psychological, behavioral, emotional, cognitive and learning disabilities. Rebecca is one of a handful of Pittsburgh teachers designated by Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA) as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano. She is a member of Pittsburgh Piano Teacher's Assocation (PPTA), Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC). She is a performer, published composer of piano teaching solos with Alfred Music, author, church musician, past Vice President of Pittsburgh Piano Teachers Association (PPTA) and former Music Advocacy Chairperson for Pennsylvania Music Teacher Association (PMTA). Her musical tastes are classical, Contemporary Christian, light rock, bluegrass, Irish music and the blues. Besides piano, she enjoys biking, hiking, golf, exploring and is a prize winning pie baker. She is the mom of two amazing children, Eric and Jen, and lives with her curious cat Chloe who occasionally visits her piano students in the studio.
